Small Fandom Bang

To anyone who sees this post, it's my understanding that the moderator of the smallfandombang has passed away. (Someone linked to the obituary from her personal blog's comments.) I feel sick. I didn't know her personally, but ficwip was an affiliate of the bang, which I admire and always look forward to.

I am optimistic that someone else has access to her event accounts, but if that is not the case, I am happy to work backwards from the bang's comments sections to get in touch with everyone & finish the current round. I do not want to step on any toes, so this is just me putting up my hand as someone with a lot of bang experience.

If you belong to the ficwip discord, ping me there and I'll add you to a private channel. I made it so we can keep each other updated. Otherwise, I've created a Google Form to gather participant contact information just in case.

ETA: It sounds like other participants have considered contacting Dreamwidth about gaining admin access to the community, so please cross your fingers that it can be transferred to them! I don't have the spoons to formally adopt another series, so it's best in other hands that can continue to run it.

ETA3: As of March 27th, I haven't heard any updates. Jeshi and I share a discord, so if/when they hear back from Dreamwidth, I'm sure they will mention it. As another option for people who would prefer not to wait or post entirely on their own, certain fandoms/ships might be eligible for ficwip's be kind, rewind! discord event that runs through the end of May.

Oh what a shame! We shared a small fandom and I always looked forward to seeing her Yuletide works.

I didn't get to know her too personally, just as a mod, but that is so sad. I just- wow.

I know we can leave comments in the SFB posts. I wonder if its worth posting something there. You know, after we all process this.

Just. So sudden. I hope her family is feeling all the love and condolences we can send.

ETA (3/5): do we know yet if anyone got access? Asking mostly because I'm debating if I just want to go ahead and post the fic I wrote for the round, which seems like the best thing to do if the round isn't going to formally finish...

Not that I know of! I believe the person who sent the support request is still waiting on a response. They belong to my server and will likely say something when they hear back.

I just got word from this from a friend who was participating this year, and have passed on the information to a few more people.

One thing I noticed in checking my email is that the mod did email all artists during the claiming period to advertise all currently available fics. I wasn't the artist last year, but do have that email from a few previous years. Would it be worth sending an all-call through one of those? (Or finding someone who was on last year's, since it would likely be the most up-to-date?)

No equivalent for authors, though, unfortunately.

Appreciate you spreading the word! The old-school format of this bang is great, but it makes communication among participants difficult.

The check-ins were public, so if we do move forward on our own, I can gather participant names from the comments section and reach everyone that way. I checked this morning and there aren't too many of us.

I'll email everyone I've heard from in a few days!

Another piece of advice someone gave was to submit a support request explaining the situation, and see if we can get posting access (or mod access) to the community. I don’t know if they have protocols that would prevent this, but it may be worth a shot.

If someone would prefer to formally take it over and reach out to Dreamwidth, they should do that. It does sound like they will transfer communities. I've got enough on my plate and will step back in that case.

Making sure that there isn't a miscommunication here: I've not reached out and neither has anyone else that I know of.

If you know that someone else has, all the better! But if the edit was on my behalf; someone gave the advice when I was passing on the news, and I thought I'd pass it onto you in turn in case it would make getting the news out easier, since I'm assuming most of us are finding out rather piecemeal.

It seems a shame for her work on the round so far to go to waste.
